Updated October 1, 2026: Replaced the 2024 “coming soon” announcement with the current Spruce Grove intake status. Removed unsupported homeowner examples and promises that savings would exceed financing payments.
As of October 1, 2026, Spruce Grove’s Clean Energy Improvement Program is at capacity and closed to new applications. Read the City’s current CEIP notice before making plans around financing.
The City says existing waitlisted applications will be processed if space becomes available, and applications already in progress will continue. Any future reopening will be posted on the City’s program page.
What this means for your project
Do not treat an old application button or a general waitlist FAQ as confirmation that intake is open. The current notice at the top of the City’s page says new applications are closed.
Financing and savings are separate calculations
CEIP spreads eligible upgrade costs through the property tax bill. The project still needs its own cost and performance assessment. Compare the installed price, estimated energy savings, maintenance costs and financing payment. Include a lower-savings scenario so the decision does not depend on everything going right.
Our earlier article described positive cash flow as if it were assured and included homeowner results without supporting case records. Those examples have been removed. They should not be used to estimate what your home will save.
If you sell, the financing and disclosure obligations need attention. Alberta Municipalities’ homeowner FAQ explains the agreement and sale requirements. Review those terms with the people handling your transaction rather than assuming a buyer will simply take over without discussion.
Before you commit
Confirm the current intake and property eligibility, obtain comparable contractor quotes, and complete the required evaluation and approval steps. Build the project around comfort, durability and realistic operating costs. Program financing can help pay for a sound plan; it does not replace one.
The Canada Greener Homes Loan promoted in the original post is closed to new applicants. Its last application day was October 1, 2025.
